Process Diary

A tank gives you no flat ground. Every mark has to be placed against a curve that is turning away from you, so the whole piece is really a question of placement: where the eye goes, where the stripe divides, how far the curls can travel before they read as decoration instead of design. I put the sigil up top where the crown catches light first, worked the vertical down through it, and let the two mirrored curls settle at the bottom like something folding. Cream over maroon, because the factory would never have done it. The cups, the brushes, the knife stay in the frame. That is the room. The painting is only the part of the room that is finished.
