Process Diary
These are the first lines I ever pulled. Two derby covers on the bench, the matte one down front and the chrome one behind it, and nothing between me and the surface but the brush. The 114 was already there; I only outlined it, and then sat a small mark underneath so the cover had something of mine on it as well. Violet on the matte silver, because the numbers wanted an edge that was not chrome. The chrome one took blue and fought me the whole way — every wobble in a line shows up twice on a polished surface, once in the paint and once in the reflection of it. I kept both in the frame, finished and unfinished-looking side by side, because that is honestly what the day was: a first attempt and a second one that had learned from it.
