Process Diary
Nobody looks at a caliper. It sits low and behind the fork where the road throws everything at it, and it is the first thing to go dull. I lettered the name onto the chrome anyway, in violet, because it is the color that refuses to be mistaken for factory. The metal is the hard part: chrome shows every reflection and every hesitation, and the letters had to be spaced by eye against a surface that kept moving light across it. Above it the bracket stays matte black, and below, the diamond plate goes on being a floor. Everything around this piece is machinery. The letters are the only thing in the frame that were done by hand, which is why they are the only thing worth the photograph.
